Suggested Equipment For Beginning SAR Dog Handlers

• Buckle collar with ID tags (quick-release type preferred)
• 6 foot leather or nylon leash
• Hotdogs, Roll-over, or other non-kibble food treats
• Plastic bags for poop - Always pick up after your dog!!
• 6-8 inch length of hose or heavy plastic tubing
• 6-10 foot tie-out cable
• 1-2 quart water bottle for dog
• small portable water dish
• Day-pack/backpack
• Whistle
• Compass
• Food and water for handler
• Book (for reading when hiding in the woods)
• Basic first-aid kit
• Leather gloves
• Rain gear
• Warm clothing (ground and concrete will sap heat from your body)
• Appropriate footwear
• New car to hold all this stuff!!
